STANDARD CULTURE LIMITATION

Frustrated phagocytosis cannot be properly observed in a 2D culture due to 3D process of phagosome formation.  

 

FRUSTRATED PHAGOCYTOSIS ASSAY BENEFITS

Using 4Dcell’s assays, molecular mechanisms regulating cellular processes of frustrated phagocytosis can be studied.

On micropatterns, macrophages can target opsonized molecules linked to micropatterns inducing frustrated phagocytosis [1]

When confined in a small volume, the cell is forced to be spread on the pattern [2].

Frustrated phagocytosis after opsonization on micropatterns

Frustrated phagosomes formation has been observed on RAW cells after opsonization (A) while without opsonized molecules there is no formation (B). Human macrophages derived from monocytes (HMDM) are also able to form frustrated phagosocytosis (C)  [1].
